While tuition does contribute to the operating funds for the College, HACC would not be able to operate on tuition income alone. Pennsylvania originally designed its community colleges to operate with one-third of funding provided by tuition, one-third provided by the local school district and one-third provided by the state. In recent years, state and local funding has decreased dramatically. To keep tuition affordable for our students, the College relies on other sources of funding, such as donations from individuals and organizations, to support its operations and ultimately our students. To learn more about the Community College Act of 1963, please visit the Pennsylvania General Assembly website. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit and then recommend distributions to other charitable organizations from the fund over time. Please be advised that any sponsorship or contribution that provides goods and services cannot be paid through donor-advised funds, such as United Way.
