Meet  Ben: Student Government Association President

“I truly believe, and have seen it time and time again, that getting involved helps students apply what they're learning in class and plays a big role to their success in life.”

Ben Byler has had some surprises since becoming a HACC student. “When I first came to HACC, I had no idea where my academic journey would take me,” he said.

One surprise was being accepted into the Bucknell UniversityCommunity College Scholars Program. After initially thinking he had “no chance of getting in,” Ben may now receive a full-ride scholarship to this prestigious college.

Another unexpected opportunity was his run for Student Government Association (SGA) president at the Harrisburg Campus. Ben recalls the SGA advisor pulling him aside and encouraging him to run for office.

As a club officer, Ben spends a decent amount of his time on the second floor of the Bruce E. Cooper Student Center. He commented, “One thing I don't think people know about HACC is that we have a vibrant student center and student life program. With the newly renovated Cooper Student Center, we now have a hub for students to connect, relax, study and get involved.”

Ben is on track to graduate in May 2018. He plans to transfer to Bucknell and pursue a degree in global management.
