What is HACC’s program like?

Prior to enrolling in the Graphic and Interactive Design certificate program, you must complete our Foundations Program (2190). The Foundations program consists of basic math, writing and reading courses so you have the skills to design a portfolio. Our innovative professors teach a wide array of fundamental art and design classes and will help you prepare your foundation portfolio. You can view their professional work here. You will submit this portfolio as part of your application for the Graphic and Interactive Design certificate program. Admission to HACC or the Foundations program does not guarantee admission into the certificate program. We encourage you to meet with your academic advisor to learn more about entrance requirements and view our portfolio example pieces to see previous portfolios.

If you pass the portfolio review and meet the designated entry requirements, you can enroll in the Graphic and Interactive Design certificate program. You also will have the opportunity to complete an internship to gain on-the-job experience. See galleries of premier HACC student work here.

As you complete your certificate, our collaborative professors will prepare you to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of skills involved in the graphic and interactive design field
  • Create an effective visual communication
  • Operate computers and graphic software used in design, Web and interactive media
  • Present a professional portfolio

The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredits HACC’s Art program. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes NASAD as a specialized accrediting agency for schools of art and design. NASAD’s major responsibility is the accreditation of education programs in art and design including the establishment of curricular standards and guidelines for specific degrees and credentials. The peer review process is the only way to gain institutional membership.

Federal regulations require the College to disclose specific gainful employment information about this program. This link to the gainful employment information will provide you completion rates and placement, program costs and median loan debt.

However, if you wish to continue your education with us and pursue your associate degree, all of your credits count towards the completion of our Associate in Applied Science in graphic and interactive design.
