Gettysburg Campus:

    Counseling/Advising Group Sessions
    • Group 1 -
      Date: March 16, 23, 30, and April 6
      Time: Noon – 1 p.m.
      “Be Who You Are”. Discover your natural strengths and personality type. Learn how you interact within your world! (Maximum 10 students and will attend all 4 sessions)
    • Group 2-
      Date: April 12, 19, 26, and May 3
      Time: 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

  • Recess
    Come relax and engage with each other in this fun wellness event! The RECESS Room creates a peaceful environment where students can doodle, paint, color, design, relax, share stories, snack, and have fun!
    Faculty, staff, and alumni are all welcome to join the fun.

  • Engaging BYSTANDERS in Sexual Violence Prevention
    A bystander, or witness, is someone who sees a situation but may or may not know what to do, may think others will act or may be afraid to do something. Bystander education programs teach potential witnesses safe and positive ways that they can act to prevent or intervene when there is a risk for sexual violence. The presentation is to teach bystanders to act more responsibly.

  • Understanding Grief from a student’s perspective
    Presenters: Terri Bowling & John Kajic
    Terri Bowling is the Outreach and Education Specialist on Child Grief Counseling from Highmark Caring Place. John Kajic, Psy.D., has served as program manager of the Highmark Caring Place, a Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and Their Families in Lemoyne (Central Pa.) since 2003. Dr. Kajic is a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC). Grief is a topic often overlooked. Terri and John will present on how grief can effect a student’s behavior.

  • Circle of Security Parenting
    Psychoeducational Group with Professor Camelia Maianu, M.S., & Christine Cappuzzo, M.S., LPC

    At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security® Parenting program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
  • Learning Objectives of the Training:
    • Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read the emotional needs
    • Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
    • Enhance the development of your child's self esteem
    • Honor your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure

  • Grief Group
    A Closed Group with the Highmark Caring Place: Terri Bowling & Counselors Michael Williams, M.S. and Christine Cappuzzo, M.S., LPC

    When a family member of loved one dies, your life can be turned upside down. The impact is shattering and it can be difficult to function well academically. It can help to have support and The Highmark Caring Place is a Center for families who are grieving. They along with Your HACC Counselors have created a safe place where those who are grieving can come together and be with others who understand what you’re going through. Come so you can get back on track academically at HACC.

  • Veterans Counseling (Individual appointments)
    Counseling with Veterans in mind w/ Sherrill Goodlive, M.S., NCC, LPC

    Veterans either starting or returning to college after Armed Services deployment may find the transition to college to be stressful. Also Veterans coming out of extended periods of exposure to severe emotional or mental trauma may find academic demands just as challenging and additional support could make the difference. Sherrill has received specific training to address Veterans. She will be a safe place to share your thoughts with, whether academic, personal or career - Come and be supported.

    Open to everyone during Harrisburg Campus Wellness Day! More to come

    Everyone has a story with twists and turns. Come out and listen to real life stories of individuals who made it through life challenges and receive strategies that will help you do the same! We hope to see you there for Wellness Day!

    Counseling Dept. partnered w/ Multicultural Affairs Workshop Open to everyone – Angela M. Campbell, Ph.D. How many times have you been filled with anxiety and in the end everything turned out fine? How many wasted moments, days, weeks, months did you spend stressed when you could have been enjoying your life? Come find out how to think a bit better so you can stress less and enjoy more of your Life.

  • Drugs and Society – Has it affected you?
    An open workshop Series for HACC students by Matthew Braswell, M.S., LCADC, MAC

    What you will learn:
    • Understand how drugs affect the mind and body
    • Learn about the effects of drug abuse on the family
    • Learn how to support someone you care for that has a substance abuse issues
