What is global service-learning?

Wikipedia defines service-learning as a method of teaching that combines classroom instruction with meaningful community service. This form of learning emphasizes critical thinking and personal reflection while encouraging a heightened sense of community, civic engagement and personal responsibility.

Who can participate in a HACC service-learning program?

All current HACC students are eligible to apply for participation in a service-learning program. Pre-reqs (if applicable) must be met.

How many credits can I earn?
Service-learning courses are not to be confused with academic courses and therefore do not earn academic credits.

How do I apply for participation in a service-learning program?
As global service-learning programs become available, this link will take you to the online application.
Scholarships of up to $300 could be available to students who qualify and demonstrate financial need.

What service-learning programs are available right now?
HACC is offering a global service-learning program to current HACC nursing students who have successfully completed NURS140 or higher. Get details on how to apply here. The deadline to apply and complete all enrollment forms including payment of a $300 non-refundable deposit is Monday, March 12.  Payment in full of the program fee (less the deposit) is due April 6, 2018.
