HACC student Jordan Dodson earned a top score in one of his classes during the fall 2020 semester, thanks to the support and encouragement from a special person – his grandmother, Barbara.

Jordan re-took BIOL 121-515 Anatomy and Physiology I after receiving a D in summer 2020. “My grandmother is helping me review the materials for the lab. I create notecards and she helps me study them. She is very good at spelling, so she is a real asset to my studying routine. She also helps me stay motivated and checks up on me from time to time. She is the first to know my grades when I receive them, which have all been A’s, thanks to her help,” Jordan said.

He added, “She really enjoys it and even joked that she deserves a degree for all she has learned.”

Jordan shared his story because “it would mean a lot if my grandmother could get some recognition. She has never gone to college but has been extremely supportive of me in pursuing my educational goals.” Barbara, who married right out of high school, was a bookkeeper for a number of years, Jordan said.

As for Jordan, he is majoring in general studies with plans to graduate in spring 2021.
