Paying For School

What special circumstances can affect my financial aid eligibility?

Certain changes in your life should be conveyed to the Financial Aid Office.

Circumstances for families can be unusual and/or change unexpectedly and this often causes financial challenges for a student seeking a college education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to estimate a student's eligibility for financial aid. However, we are well aware that there are unique situations when tax information may not always provide an accurate picture of a family's financial situation. We also know that our student population is diverse and have many different needs. Contact HACC's Financial Aid Office if there are changes in your financial situation. These include:

  • Loss of employment
  • Loss of untaxed income or benefit (e.g. child support, unemployment)
  • Death of a parent or spouse since filing the FAFSA
  • Parents/student divorced or separated since filing the FAFSA
