Consider a career in Court Reporting at HACC's Harrisburg Campus

July 12, 2007
If you're looking for a challenging, exciting career, try Court and Realtime Reporting offered by HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. Court and Realtime Reporting is offered both as an associate degree or certificate program, with classes meeting in the evenings in the Hall Technology Center on HACC's Harrisburg Campus.

Court reporters play a critical role not only in judicial proceedings, but also at every meeting where the spoken word must be preserved as a written transcript, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Increasingly, court reporters also are providing closed-captioning and real-time translating services to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

To find out more about the program, plan on attending an informational session from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Room 123 Hall Technology Center. Working court reporters will be on hand to share their experiences, talk about job opportunities in the field and answer questions. Instructors will be available to provide additional information about requirements to enroll in the program. In addition, court reporting machines will be available for interested attendees to try out.

A short orientation will be given to new students who already have signed up for fall classes, which start Aug. 20.
