HACC invites history buffs to follow in Stonewall Jackson's footsteps

July 2, 2007
Civil War history buffs wondering if Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was a military genius or just plain lucky should plan to attend a noncredit continuing education session offered through the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. The one-day session is planned for 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 29. Participants in "Stonewall Jackson's '62 Valley Campaign" will travel with instructor Charles Fennell to Virginia, where they will follow in Jackson's footsteps from Winchester to Port Republic. The trip will include discussions on whether one of the most famous figures of the American Civil War was the reason Robert E. Lee was so successful. Fennell also will discuss if Stonewall earned his fame because of the 1862 Valley Campaign.

The tour bus will leave the Gettysburg Campus, located at 731 Old Harrisburg Road, promptly at 6 a.m. and return by approximately 8 p.m. Several rest and refreshment stops will be made throughout the trip. The cost for the noncredit course is $105.

The deadline to register for this travel session is July 20. To register for this course, call 717-338-1010 or visit www.hacc.edu. HACC's Noncredit Shopping Cart makes it easier than ever to find and register for classes online. Simply find the course, add it to your shopping cart, and then "check out" to enroll in the course.
