HACC Lancaster Campus noncredit offers broad range of topics

In October the Lancaster Campus of HACC presents a multitude of different subjects for personal pursuits or professional needs. The courses, which cover everything from food, art, history, legal/money matters and even air traffic control, will be held at the college's Lancaster Campus, located at 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike.

  • Food

  • Sushi - Learn about one of America's most popular food trends. It's more than just raw fish. One session is held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. Cost is $50.

    One Pot Dinners - Hearty soups, delicious stews, stir fry and a tasty casserole are featured. One session scheduled for 10 a.m.-1p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. Cost is $50.

  • Art

  • Wire Work - Learn the techniques to shape loops, clasps, spirals and wrapped loops. One session held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3. Cost is $25.

    Calligraphy - An introduction to the art of beautiful writing. Sessions are scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 9-Nov. 6. Cost is $155.

    PMC Basics - Precious Metal Clay is like clay that can be worked, rolled, cut and shaped like clay then fired to turn to pure silver. Learn to make charms, beds, pendants or earrings. Two sessions are held from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 and 18. Cost is $45.

    Book Making Made Simple - Easy bookbinding techniques including single and double signature, accordion books, hardbound covers and a "Clarkson Book." Held 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 17-Nov. 7. Cost is $125.

    Working Clay on a Potter's Wheel - Transform clay using a potter's wheel. No prior experience necessary. Held 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 23-Dec. 11. The cost is $260 which includes text, use of tools, clay, glazes and two firings on each completed piece.

    Intermediate Glass Fusing - Create more elaborate decorative jewelry or try a fused bowl or plate. Held 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 25-Nov. 1. Cost is $35.

    PMC: Pendant with Fused Glass - Use your basic PMC skills to make unique shimmering pendant with sparkly fused glass. One session from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Cost is $45.

  • History

  • Japanese Tea Ceremony - In Japan, serving tea is an elegant, cultural art with deep meaning. Students may bring a kimono to wear during the ceremony. Held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Pemberley Tea Shop in Lancaster. Cost is $35.

    Italian Renaissance - Study the artists and their work of the Italian Renaissance: Boccioni, Greco, Modigliani, Bernini, daVinci and more. Two sessions scheduled 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 and 11. Cost is $45.

  • General Interest

  • School of Legal/Money Matters - In a question and answer format, an attorney and certified financial planner will provide basic understanding of how legal matters can affect a variety of money matters. Sessions are scheduled 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2-30. Cost is $65.

    Air Traffic Control School - Provides pilots with the knowledge necessary to operate in the nation's air traffic system safely and with confidence. Satisfies the required pilot attendance of an FAA safety seminar. One session 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17. Cost is $60.

    Digital Photography I - For the absolute beginner, technical aspects are kept to a minimum while learning how to shoot great pictures. Bring your digital camera to class. Two session held 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 and 17. Cost is $48.

    Writing/Selling Screenplays/Novels - In a short time, have fun while learning how to write a screenplay or novel in professional style and format and get your work noticed by agents, producers and publishers. Sessions are 6:30-8:45 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 18-Nov. 8. cost is $85.

    Writing Children's Books - Topics include creating character, writing strong yest simple stories and presenting your work to publishers. Held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 23-Nov. 13. Cost is $89.

    Dancing the Night Away - Swing to the Big Band sounds and the music of the 50's, 60's and Top 40. One session held 2:15-3:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. Cost is $39.
