Students, parents, career changers, educators, counselors and those advising students with technical interests are encouraged to attend the event.
"The number of career opportunities for engineers and technicians continues to run strong," said Dave McNeilly, division counselor for engineering and technology at HACC. "Majors that remain in steady need are engineering programs like civil, mechanical and electronics. Graduating engineers have the ideal training to move forward in today's high-tech society."
Area engineering professionals, as well as HACC faculty, will be on hand to discuss opportunities and careers in mechanical, civil and electrical engineering. The event also will include discussion on several high demand trade technology fields such as automotive technology, HVAC, electrical technology, welding and industrial maintenance.
"It's becoming more prevalent than ever for people to seek education in the trades," said Ed Burns, department chair for technology and the trades. "Although a lot of students enroll in the associate degree or certificate programs, by the time they complete even the diploma program - the least credits required to complete - employers are contacting the college asking for students to employ in the field."
Participants at the Exploring Careers event will have the opportunity to learn more about these highly lucrative occupations.
"These positions have good salaries," said McNeilly. "What might be noteworthy is the misconception about mathematics. While it's true you need some math for most of these careers, in the case of some technician jobs, the math required is often quite basic. And we're seeing an increase locally for the need for electronics technicians. Our faculty members are busy trying to fill internships and full time jobs for these technicians. We can add civil technicians to that as well, since the infrastructure thing is not going to go away anytime soon."
