HACC-Lebanon Campus celebrating Earth Day

Students, faculty, staff join in observation
April 13, 2010
Lebanon, PA – Earth Day 2010 is more than just a one day occasion at the HACC-Lebanon Campus.
The 40th anniversary of Earth Day is being celebrated all month by students, faculty and staff with a “Happy Birthday, Earth Day” cake – complete a quiz about the earth to get a piece of cake, features from the “Blue Planet” series, and other green activities such as how to track your carbon footprint and suggestions for going green in your living quarters.
In addition to continuing to raise awareness of Earth Day next week, a campus cleanup/block party will be held from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, April 23, with students, faculty and staff cleaning up the flower beds on campus and planting flowers/plants along the 700 block of North Cumberland Street. The volunteers also will pick up trash and litter, weed, and pressure wash the sidewalk.
Other events next week include a series of Earth Day-related movies, including “The State of the Ocean’s Animals,” which investigates why so many species are disappearing; “How the Earth was Made,” which travels the globe to reveal the physical processes that shaped some well-known locations and geological phenomena; and “Going Green,” true tales from gleaners, scavengers and Dumpster divers.
Students, faculty and staff are learning new and innovative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle with products, services and Web sites on display in the lobby through April 16. This week also kicks off the April poetry collection with giveaways for the winning earth and green focused poems.
During the last week of April, the campus community is invited to join members of the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa national honor society to help raise awareness about carbon footprints by looking for the world map on the third floor and putting a sticker where the clothing they wear is made.
