HACC's Select Medical Health Education Pavilion earns Gold LEED rating

Harrisburg, PA – The use of sustainable best practices has earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s Gold LEED designation for the Select Medical Health Education Pavilion at the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
HACC President Edna V. Baehre, Ph.D., was joined by representatives of building architect L.R. Kimball, and Nancy Rockey, campus vice president, in unveiling a new plaque noting the designation from the nonprofit coalition of building industry leaders.
Baehre noted recyclable and reusable materials, such as carpeting made from recycled soda bottles, recycled newspapers for insulation and trim work made from trees cleared from the site, were used in order to have minimal impact on landfills and natural resources.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) has four designations – Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
“To put that into perspective, out of the 987 projects in Pennsylvania which have been certified by LEED, only 77 have managed to achieve Gold or higher rating,” Baehre said.
The Select Medical Health Education Pavilion, dedicated in 2005, houses HACC’s rapidly growing health careers programs.
