Scholarships available to Mifflin County residents attending HACC

For HACC classes taken at Lewistown Area or Juniata high schools

Harrisburg, PA – Mifflin County students can apply for a scholarship to help pay for attending HACC this fall at Lewistown Area or Juniata high schools.

The Mifflin County Education and Scholarship Foundation is offering 15 scholarships, each for $300, that can be applied toward the cost of classes.

“We see HACC classes as a worthwhile endeavor for higher education in our region,” said Jeff Gum, president for the foundation. “The scholarships can help our residents with their college pursuits at HACC right here in this area.”

The scholarships are available to Mifflin County residents. Juniata County residents are not eligible.

HACC classes at Lewistown Area and Juniata high schools are offered through an association with HACC and the Community College Project at the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit. There are three general education courses available at each of the two high schools this fall. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 23, 2010.

At Lewistown Area High School:

·         Principles of Accounting

·         Introduction to Software for Business

·         College Algebra

At Juniata High School:

·         Environmental Science

·         English Composition

·         Introduction to Literature

Interested students are invited to learn more about HACC classes or the scholarships at an information session scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the ComPass Building, 31 S. Dorcas St., Lewistown.
