Live at Rose Lehrman presents Tennessee Williams' classic 'The Glass Menagerie'

Walnut Street Theatre: "The Glass Menagerie"
Jan. 25, 2011
HARRISBURG — Live at Rose Lehrman will present “The Glass Menagerie,” featuring Philadelphia’s renowned Walnut Street Theatre Company, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday,  Feb. 23, at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
This presentation of Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” marks the first time the historic company has toured central Pennsylvania. After the performance the audience is invited to stay for a free talkback with the cast.
Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre, founded in 1809, is America's oldest theatre. It is also the official State Theatre of Pennsylvania, and a National Historic Landmark.
The characters that make up “The Glass Menagerie” were based on real people that  Tennessee Williams knew very well: his own family. For the first 30 years of his life, he was living “The Glass Menagerie,” and it was from his personal traumatic experiences that the classic story evolved. Audiences still recognize parts of themselves and family members mirrored in the characters. Audiences continue to identify with the story of love, loss, yearning, illusion and escape six decades after the play’s premiere.
