Dec. 23, 2011
HARRISBURG – Rose Lehrman Art Gallery will showcase works of studio art faculty at HACC Jan. 9 through Feb. 1.
The public is invited to a free reception for the artists from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19.
The work of the nearly 30 art studio faculty is diverse in medium and concept. There are painters, draftsmen and printmakers; digital and film photographers; ceramic artists and sculptors; and graphic designers and illustrators. Content ranges from portraiture to parody, published magazine and book illustrations to metaphor, and sleek abstractions to specific people and places, as well as functional pottery.
“What is most interesting is that we have faculty teaching in traditional media and also in areas like glass, jewelry and graphic design,” said Kim Banister, gallery coordinator and art instructor. “We’re fortunate to have such a very broad group across our campuses and this exhibit showcases all that we teach.”
Among the faculty work showcased is a print-based sculpture by instructor Shawn Williams; traditional art such as the paintings from observation by professors Ruth Bernard and Monica Smith-Talbot; and nontraditional art like the layered digital images by professor Marjaneh Talebi or the dripping veils of color in Banister’s drawings.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, or by appointment. For more information, call 717-780-2435 or email Kim Banister, gallery curator, at kebanist@hacc.edu. Visit the gallery on the HACC website: www.hacc.edu under the Rose Lehrman Arts Center and on Facebook.
