HACC summer camps for 2011 announced

HARRISBURG –  This summer 2012, the Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, offer school-age youth a number of camps where they can explore new subjects and have fun. The schedule includes:
At the Harrisburg Campus, One HACC Drive
  • Theatre for Young People Summer Theatre Camps
Theatre for Young People was created to offer an affordable venue for area young people to celebrate and gain exposure to every aspect of theatre including acting, dance, makeup, puppetry, playwrighting and designing sets, costumes and light. Youth ranging in age from 5 to 17 can find their creative potential in a series of week-long camps offered from June 13 through Aug. 5, 2012.

Noon-2 p.m., June 20-24, for ages 9-12 ($75) (Can be combined with Theatre Experience for a full day experience)

-          Total Improvisation
9:30-11:30 a.m. June 13-17, for ages 13-17 ($75) (Can be combined with Musical Theatre for a full day experience.)

  • 2011 Ultimate Spin Basketball Camp
9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, Aug. 1-5, 2011, in the James W. Evans Physical Education Center on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus.
For boys and girls ages 9-15. Space is limited to the first 100 youth who apply. Cost is $150.
Harlem Globetrotter Chris “Mr. Handles” Franklin returns this summer for boys and girls ages 9-15. Franklin and fellow pro athletes Arnold “A Train” Bernard and Luis “Trikz” DaSilva. Your child will be taught the skills and techniques of ball handling, shooting and rebounding, while promoting self-esteem, positive life choices and the value of education.

  • College of Guitar
1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 11-21, 2011
Cost is $179
For ages 12-17
Learn applications in a nontraditional format to enhance playing skills and immediately apply to music that you want to learn and explore. Focus is on rock, blues, fingerstyle and percussive guitar styles. Become familiar with guitar music composition and music theory. Students receive a certificate upon program completion.

  • Midtown Summer Technology Camp
(Held at HACC-Midtown 2, 1500 North 3rd St., Harrisburg)
9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 18-21, 2011.
Cost is $199
For ages 14-17
Today’s cutting edge technology evolves at the speed of light. This camp is geared for students who thrive on all things techno. Students will discover the worlds of architecture, green technology, engineering, web development and geospatial technology. Lunch is provided daily. A limited number of scholarships are available for this camp for students with financial needs.

  • Tennis for Youth

Cost is $49
For ages 10-18
Focus will be on the fundamental skills of tennis: strokes, serving, volley and lob shots are covered. Racquets and balls are provided, however students may bring their own.

Working as a team, learn all the elements of filmmaking, including brainstorming, storyboarding, auditioning, casting, screening scripts, directing, shooting film, editing film and marketing the finished product. Participants must bring pencils and a notebook.

  • Babysitter Training Certificate/Babysitter Business Basics

For ages 11-15
Intensive camp will give the opportunity to complete the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training and the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver (adult, infant and child CPR) program and receive certifications for both. Create business cards, marketing materials and learn how to interview and the best conduct while working.
