The HACC Practical Nursing (PN) program is a college-based program that prepares graduates to qualify to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses. Once graduates pass the exam, they become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). LPNs work in many areas of health care including nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, clinics, doctor’s offices and more.

HACC’s college-based program requires general education courses, such as English, Psychology, Sociology, Human Biology and Microbiology, in addition to 30 nursing credits.  The general education courses can be taken at the student’s pace to help match the diverse family, work and educational needs of the student. Currently, all general education courses are available at two HACC sites, in the Hanover area: The Hanover Hospital Wellness  & Education Center and South Western School District, with plans in progress to offer the courses through the Hanover Area School District.

As students complete the general education courses, they may apply for the 12-month clinical component of HACC’s program, which begins in January each year.

The clinical portion of the program requires students to complete classroom and nursing skills laboratory learning at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus; however, clinical learning experiences – which are three days a week – take place in the Gettysburg Campus service area.

HACC’s Gettysburg Campus PN clinical facilities include:

Courses completed as part of the college-based PN program provide college credits that can be applied to registered nursing (RN) education.

HACC is an open admission community college, welcoming all who apply.  For questions or more information about how to apply, contact Sara Ridley at slridley@hacc.edu or 717-339-3514.
