The Best of HACC's Art Students' Work Featured in Honors Exhibit

April 3, 2014

HARRISBURG – The annual honors art exhibit at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, featuring the best work of HACC art students, will be on display at the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery during two student art shows in April and May 2014.

The first student show, on display Monday, April 7 through Thursday, April 17, will feature the best student works of photography, computer art and digital photo imaging, 3D design, 2D design, sculpture, illustration and printmaking. The show will conclude with a reception for the artists on Thursday, April 17, from 5:30-7 p.m.

The second student show, exhibited Wednesday, April 23 through Wednesday, May 7, will include the best graphic design, drawing, painting, glass, ceramics and jewelry work from HACC students. A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, May 1, from 5:30-7 p.m.

“Studio classes at HACC are pretty rigorous,” said Kim Banister, education specialist and gallery curator at HACC. “It's amazing to see what is produced by the students who work hard and grow artistically in just one or two years of study. The student shows reflect a high level of work for such young artists, often way beyond the foundation level.”

Nearly 1,000 works were submitted by students for consideration in the show. Art faculty juried the submissions and selected the best works for each section of the Honors Exhibit. Awards will be presented during both receptions.

HACC has an active art department with approximately 400 art majors and a large number of non-majors. HACC’s art department offers courses in traditional media such as painting, drawing, photography and ceramics. Classes are also offered in glass blowing, jewelry and typography, among others. At HACC, students may elect to take a transfer major, such as fine arts or art and design or may elect to take a career program, such as photography or graphic design.

The Rose Lehrman Art Gallery is located on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. All Rose Lehrman Art Gallery events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, or by appointment.
