March 20, 2007
The United States is celebrating National Women's History Month during March, and so is HACC. The Lebanon Campus of Central Pennsylvania's Community College, 735 Cumberland Street, will host "Women's Day" on Wednesday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free and open to the public, the special event for women and their families will include speakers and free information on topics important to women.

Women's Day 2007 is the second such celebration hosted by HACC Lebanon and an excellent way to reach out to the surrounding community, according to Pedro Rodriguez, multicultural coordinator for the campus.

"Although we should celebrate women all year long, we wanted to identify one day when we could introduce our students, staff, administration and community to the community agencies that exist in our area and provide some sampling of what those agencies do," said Rodriguez. "By building this bridge, we can create a stronger community."

Joining in the annual event will be representatives of local and state service providers, such as Lebanon County Area Agency on Aging, Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center, Lebanon Pregnancy Center and Lebanon Family Health Services. Participants will have the opportunity to wander among many informational booths throughout the day, gathering details on financial planning and benefiting from free health screenings for osteoporosis, blood pressure, cholesterol and more.

Special presentations scheduled throughout the day include:

  • " Pat Gibble, PhD, an Elizabethtown College professor, who will deliver an archeological presentation from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
  • " From 11:15 a.m. until noon, former HACC student and living historian Shannon Lester-Snyder will demonstrate "wool weaving," an 1800s craft art form.
  • " Local soloist Veronica Revay will perform from 12 to 12:30 p.m.
  • " Legal experts Ann Kline, Esq. and Loreen Burkett, Esq., president of the Lebanon County Bar Association, will talk about issues that every woman needs to understand-wills, power of attorney, credit domestic violence and more-from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The first 250 visitors to Women's Day will receive free goody bags. Lunch wraps will be available for sale.
