Showcase of student talent at HACC's Rose Lehrman Art Gallery

HARRISBURG – Each year the art faculty at HACC-Harrisburg Campus selects the best work from their students for a “Student Honors Show.” The exhibit this year runs from April13-20 and April 25-May 6.
At the first show, April 13-20, photography, three-dimensional design, two-dimensional design, computer art, illustration and printmaking are featured. This exhibit closes with a reception and awards ceremony 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.
The second show runs April 25-May 6 and features painting, drawing, jewelry, ceramics, graphic design and glass. This exhibit closes with a reception and awards ceremony 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, May 5.
The HACC Art Department has about 400 students majoring in one of five different programs: fine arts, art and design, contemporary crafts marketing, photography, or graphic design. Roughly another 400 students that are non-art majors also are enrolled in art classes. Students who complete the two-year program at HACC may continue their art studies at professional art schools, such as Tyler School of Art and Maryland Institute College of Art, or Student Honors Show, Rose Lehrman Art Galleryat liberal arts schools such as Dickinson College, Millersville University and Messiah College.
Faculty select about 75 works for each exhibit from about 1,000 student entries.
The salon style exhibit in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery demonstrates the breadth and depth of HACC’s art programs as well as the talent and skill of the students. Subject matter is as diverse as the mediums. Works include self portraits, landscapes, social commentary and contemporary issues in oil, charcoal, digital and tradition print, functional and sculptural clay, plaster, glass and jewelry.
The exhibit is supported by the HACC Student Government Association and prizes are awarded during a closing reception for the best work in each category.
