“I want to help someone like someone helped me.”

Virtual learning may not be the preference for everyone, but for Cheyenne, a student in HACC’s Human Services Program, it’s a good fit. She said, “I love virtual learning…it’s easier for me. I love the faculty and just feel like this is the right place for me to further my education at.” The flexibility that HACC offers seemed like a good fit for her as a single mother.

Cheyenne expects to graduate in the spring of 2022 and would like to work with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. “This experience is personal for me,” she said. “I want to help someone like someone helped me.”

Cheyenne shared that she is a survivor of abuse, lived in foster care when she was a teenager and has experienced homelessness. “After going through four years of turmoil my life took a turn for the better,” she said.

HACC is a place where many find purpose. Cheyenne said she is “more patient and transparent” as a result of the people she has met at HACC. She added that while at HACC she “learned how to build my horizon” and “everything I am doing now I am doing for my kids and theirs.”
