The evening will feature Gerard Alessandrini's ever-fresh parody of Broadway that has had audiences doubled-over with laughter. Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit pokes fun at classical Broadway shows and stars, as well as current popular shows running today.
Forbidden Broadway was first seen 24 years ago at Palsson's Supper Club on New York's Upper West Side in January 1982. An unemployed actor with a dream, a couple of bucks, and a wit that could cut glass, Alessandrini, wanted a showcase for his talents. He decided to assemble some of the musical parodies of Broadway shows he had written since childhood into a nightclub act. Critics and audiences were wowed and it has since become New York's longest running musical comedy revue. Most of its victims (stars and casts) make a point of stopping by to see what Alessandrini has done to them.
Alessandrini and Forbidden Broadway recently won the 2006 Tony Award Honoring Excellence in Theatre. He has also won a 2005 Drama Desk Award for Best Musical Revue, Obie and Outer Critics Circle Awards, four other Drama Desk Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Drama League.
If you've never seen Cats, Phantom, Les Miz, The Producers or The Lion King take heart. Variety says "You don't have to be a Broadway musical fanatic to enjoy this immensely entertaining show." Updated regularly, Forbidden Broadway has had several editions, countless revisions, three New York City performance spaces, several national and international tours, and thousands of special performances.
The HACC Alumni Association is offering a "Valentine on Broadway" dinner theatre package for $50 per person. The package features a prime rib buffet dinner and valentine treats. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm in the Cooper Student Center. All packages include a ticket to see the show at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center.
