LANCASTER – Award-winning author Marty Essen will present his high-energy digital slide show, “Around the World in 90 Minutes,” from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in Room 203 of the East Building at the HACC-Lancaster Campus.
The show, which is free and open to the public, features interesting facts, humorous stories, and the best of thousands of photos Essen took while traveling the world for his book, “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.” He created the show as part of his first book tour, and after numerous refinements, has presented it in colleges, museums, and nature centers around the country.
Essen also will present a workshop, “Cool Writing Careers,” from 2-3 p.m. in Room 208 of the East Building. It also is free and open to the public.
Both events are co-sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Life at the HACC-Lancaster Campus.
Essen’s “Around the World in 90 Minutes” presentation will include amazing animal facts, debunking animal myths, bizarre creates and endangered species, swimming with piranhas, kayaking in the rainforest, rafting with humpback whales and surviving a hippo attach in Zimbabwe.
He has won multiple book awards for travel/essay writing, including the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Best Books Book Award, and the National Indie Excellence Award. In addition, he won a first place award at 2009 Green Book Festival in Los Angeles, and “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet” was named a top 10 “green” book by The Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
