Paintings by Fayetteville resident Marti Griffin Yeager show variety of styles

GETTYSBURG – Paintings by Fayetteville artist Marti Griffin Yeager are on exhibit through Dec. 20 at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
The exhibit illustrates varying aspects of Yeager’s style, which runs the gamut from a kind of painterly realism to total abstraction “depending upon my mood,” she said. Yeager works in oils, watercolors, pastels and acrylics, and her subject matter ranges from landscapes to still lifes to portraits.
The community is invited to meet the artist at a reception from 1:15-2:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in the gallery hallway of the campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road.
Yeager has been painting for more than 30 years, from the time she took her first painting course in college “and was immediately hooked.”
“Ever since then I’ve been working hard at what I consider a lifelong process of learning and growing as an artist – attending various workshops, painting outdoors from nature and indoors from still life and people,” Yeager said. “For several years I’ve worked on portrait painting from live models, and have even tried my hand at printmaking.”
Yeager added, “Because I don’t like to limit my options for artistic expression, my style and subject matter varies widely. The painting is not necessarily about the subject itself; rather, the subject is the vehicle for an artistic statement which is made through the arrangement of visual elements into a dynamic composition.”
Yeager’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and juried shows, where she has won awards including several Best of Show, and has been featured at galleries and art venues throughout the region. Her work is in private collections throughout the country. She also teaches workshops in watercolor and drawing and gives both class and individual art instruction.
“For me, painting is not only a full-time job, but a way of seeing, of communicating, of being,” Yeager said.
Yeager’s exhibit at HACC can be viewed now through Dec. 20 during campus open hours: 7:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday 7:30 and 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday. The campus is closed on Sunday. In addition, the campus will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, and will be closed Nov. 25-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
