Dec. 10, 2010
HARRISBURG – More than 860 students will graduate from the five regional campuses and the Virtual Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
The commencement ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Farm Show Complex, 2300 N. Cameron St. in Harrisburg.
Fredrick A. Clark is the commencement speaker. He is president and CEO of Clark Resources, a certified minority-owned business, government relations and diversity consulting firm in Harrisburg.
Clark is credited with playing a key role in the revitalization of the city while he was executive director of Center City Harrisburg. He also served as executive director of the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority.
Known for his philanthropic work, Clark is part of many nonprofit companies, involved in charitable events and organizations that help raise funds for underserved populations throughout central Pennsylvania and the United States.
Interim President Ronald R. Young will confer the honorary doctorate of public service to James I. Scheiner, HACC trustee emeritus, vice president of Century Engineering, Inc. and former Pennsylvania Secretary of Revenue.
Scheiner serves on the boards of Harsco Corporation, M&T Bank, Pennsylvania Tobacco Settlement Investment and Pennsylvania Workforce Investment. He also is the vice chairman of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.
The honorary degree recognizes Scheiner’s outstanding service to HACC, the central Pennsylvania region and to the entire Commonwealth.
Lisa M. Kenney of Mechanicsburg is the student speaker. Raised in the coal region of Shamokin, Kenney withdrew from college early because of finances. Later she tried juggling online classes full time at the University of Phoenix while working full time and managing family responsibilities. It was her husband who suggested she “physically” attend school full time. Kenney took his advice and was able to transfer to a part-time position in the company where she was working while enrolled at HACC.
After graduating from HACC she plans to attend Penn State Harrisburg and complete a bachelor’s degree in information systems-business.
