CHAMBERSBURG – Representatives of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and the Chambersburg Area School District are partners in a new effort that will make it easier to earn college credits in Franklin County.
“Starting this fall, students at Chambersburg Area Senior High School and residents in surrounding communities will be able to take HACC classes without ever leaving the high school campus,” said HACC Interim President Ron Young.
“These college credit classes will provide a pathway for students to earn a two-year associate career degree or associate degree that will transfer to a four-year college or university,” he said during a ribbon cutting March 3 to formally open the HACC Student Services Office at the high school.
“We are fortunate to be able to partner with the school district to provide higher education opportunities in this setting,” Young added.
“Bringing HACC services to CASHS is helping to fulfill our goal to bring affordable community college programs to our students and graduates,” said Dr. Joseph Padasak, CASD superintendent. “This will give more students the opportunity to get the advanced education they need to be successful in the workforce.”
Eve Weaver, HACC’s Franklin County coordinator, and Heather Watt, HACC recruiter and student services counselor, will staff the HACC Student Services Office.
Potential students are invited to find out more at a free information session at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Chambersburg Area School District Administration Building, 435 Stanley Ave.
HACC’s fall semester begins Aug. 22, with classes in business, criminal justice, geospatial technology, social sciences and general studies being planned. HACC also offers college credit courses at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center.
