HARRISBURG – Youngsters ages 3-10 are invited to explore the wonderful world of books and meet local celebrities during “Kids Read!” Aug. 8-11 at HACC’s Midtown 2 library, 1500 N. Third St.

“Parents, guardians and childcare providers in the Midtown community are encouraged to bring their children to this free event to hear stories about their favorite characters – and new ones – read by celebrity readers, including professional athletes, first responders, authors and other surprise guests,” said Sheila Ciotti, HACC committee member for the Kids read! program.

“What’s more, each child who attends a session will pick out a new, free book to take home,” said Cindy Reiner, dean of Workforce Training, Public Safety and Adult Education.

The free reading sessions and activities presented by age group will be held 10-11:30 a.m. and 2-3:30 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 8-10. Refreshments will be served.

A special reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, with Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson reading one of her favorite childhood books, and children receiving prizes for attending the sessions.

HACC is partnering with several community organizations, including Dauphin County Library System, Metro Bank, Executive Women International, Harrisburg Senators, The State Museum, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, Hershey Foods and Integrity Bank to bring this event to Midtown area residents.

For more information and to register, call Sheila Ciotti at 221-1300, ext. 1420, or Jackie Foster at 221-1332.
