Cooking with the Calamari Sisters – Mangia Italiano! Everyone invited to Sept. 1 event

HARRISBURG – Enjoy a taste of the Live at Rose Lehrman’s upcoming season at a garden party/open house from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Rose Garden Plaza on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus.
The community is invited to the free reception to kick off the first day of ticket sales for the 2011-12 season with raffles, free gifts, backstage tours, harp selections by Elizabeth Bashore of the Harrisburg Symphony Youth Orchestra. Free wine and beverages will be provided. Dafnos Italian Grille will provide hors d’oeuvres and sweet treats.

“Season 2011-12 continues our tradition of bringing you the best of live professional dance, theatre, music and family events,” said Teri Guerrisi, director of Live at Rose Lehrman. “We invite patrons to experience ‘More Than A Show,’ as nearly every performance in the upcoming season features fun, engaging and educational bonus activities.”
Performances open Oct. 6 with the comedic “Cooking with the Calamari Sisters,” featuring a free post-show pasta and cannoli party. The season includes four professional major dance events including the renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company, the 75th Anniversary Tour of Duquesne University’s Tamburitzans, the stunning and sacred Indian classical dance of Ragamala Dance, and the percussive, sensual Latin-influenced dance of Ballet Hispanico!
The whimsical sounds of Danú will lead into the holiday season with “A Christmas in Ireland.” Aquila Theatre’s “Macbeth” delves into world of Shakespeare, and Squonk Opera’s “Mayhem and Majesty” will project the audience into “a musical experience that’s colorful, chaotic, spiky, elegant, and surreal,” as noted by the Tribune Review.
Two family events on the schedule include the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Company and the regional premier of the Off-Broadway family hit, “Angelina Ballerina – The Musical!”
Season 2011-12 also marks the 10th anniversary of the Friends of Live at Rose Lehrman membership program. Membership support from patrons helps to sustain excellent high-quality events that have made Live at Rose Lehrman the cultural and artistic pride of the mid-state.
Live at Rose Lehrman is supported by grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour Program, and the Cultural Enrichment Fund. The series also receives support from the Franklin H. and Ruth L. Wells Foundation.

Paul Taylor has continued to make the most cutting edge, purely romantic, astonishingly athletic, and downright funny dances put on stage. The evening program will include “Roses;” “Three Dubious Memories” (Taylor’s newest work), and “Brandenburgs.”
