HARRISBURG – Midtown’s new gallery at HACC will feature the exhibit, “Black Hearted Kings: A State of Higher Learning,” beginning Friday, May 18, at the new Fenêtre Gallery on the second floor of Midtown 2 on the corner of Third and Reily streets. The exhibit opens with a reception 6-8 p.m. during Harrisburg’s “3rd in the Burg” and continues through June 8.

Artists Garrick Dorsett and Zack Rudy have been collaborating as The Huckle Buckle Boys for several years. They have shown their work together in Rochester, N.Y., and several venues in the Harrisburg area. A large installation resides at the Midtown Arts Center.

Both artists have varied backgrounds that includes graffiti as well as more traditional painting, photography and drawing.

“Black Hearted Kings: A State of Higher Learning” is about Dorsett and Rudy and their development as artists and men. To the artists, life is full of small betrayals, sometimes larger disappointments, and events that can’t be controlled. What you do in the face of adversity is what that makes you who you are. Imagery of black hearts and dunce figures in the exhibit allude to this process of maturing.

Dorsett works in the HACC photography department and teaches photography and glass. He received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. His photography has been published in Photo Monthly Magazine and International Photography.

Rudy is a student at HACC and also works in the art department. He is an accomplished printmaker, illustrator and fine artist. For many years, he created concept art and illustrations for video gaming and tattoo artists. He has created murals for historic houses and restaurants. He has received recognition for customized motorcycle painting.

Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2, which has been completely restored and upgraded to meet the varied needs of nearly 2,500 students enrolled in HACC’s trade and technology programs.

Hours for the gallery will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday and 6-8 p.m. Friday and by appointment. Events are free and open to the public. Entrance to the building is at 1500 Third St.
