'At Home and Away' at HACC's Rose Lehrman Art Gallery_Chaplin Reception on Oct. 31

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The work of photographers Paul Chaplin, Gary Dwight Miller, Sean Simmers and John Whitehead will be on display in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery, on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, beginning Monday, Oct. 14 through Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013.

A lecture by the artists will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, at 5:30 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Auditorium Theatre. A reception follows the lecture from 7-8 p.m.

Chaplin, Miller, Simmers and Whitehead are photo-journalists. They are storytellers, visually reporting on events by not only capturing news, but also composing with light and color.

Based in York, Pa., Chaplin specializes in documentary and editorial photography. He has worked for 11 years at The Patriot-News. Chaplin has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.

Miller currently works as an independent documentary photographer based in southeast Asia. He is a contract member with Zuma Press international wire services and has been published in numerous global periodicals including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and The Guardian (U.K.).

A Harrisburg, Pa. native, Miller was formerly a daily news photojournalist with The Patriot-News and the Associated Press, Harrisburg office. He photographed a broad range of subject matter during the 25 years he worked in Pennsylvania, from studio portraits and food to politics and crime. He is a protégé of photographers J. Henry Troup and Paul Vathis.

In 2013, Simmers was awarded Photographer of the Year for Region 3 by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). He specializes in documentary and editorial photography, as well as portraiture. He has worked for The Patriot-News for 13 years and is based in Harrisburg, Pa. Simmers has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pa.

John Whitehead specializes in fine art and commercial photography in Camp Hill, Pa. Whitehead has worked for The Patriot-News for 17 years. He has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Il.

Fall gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, or by appointment.
