HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Live at Rose Lehrman (LARL) 2013-14 season offers a variety of professional shows, with a focus on dance, music and theatrical performances.

“We are pleased to announce that the Rose Lehrman Arts Center theatre was selected as a 2013 Harrisburg Magazine Readers’ Choice ‘Performance Hall,’” said Teri Guerrisi, director of the LARL artist series. The center is on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

The LARL 2013-14 season incorporates an international flair with the Wailin’ Jennysfrom Canada, Tango Firefrom Argentina and Rhythm of the Dancefrom Ireland. Three strong theatre performances include Aquila Theatre in “Twelfth Night,” Neil Berg’s “101 Years of Broadway”and “The Fantasticks,” with a fresh steam-punk style. Dance offerings feature Hubbard Street 2from Chicago, and Philadelphia hip-hop artists, Rennie Harris RHAW. Two unique performances in the lineup include The Hot Club of San Francisco, a gypsy jazz quintet performing in concert with the showing of three silent vintage films, and  Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music, a musical event for all, where audience members dress-up and sing the songs in an audience-participation style.

The LARL 2013-14 season:

The Wailin’ Jennys: After a nearly year-long hiatus, these three extraordinary voices return with their heart-stopping harmonies, engaging stage presence and uplifting repertoire of contemporary, country and roots folk music on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at 8 p.m. Supported in part by Susquehanna Folk Music Society and WXPN 88.5 FM.






Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music: You are the show in Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music! Come dressed up as your favorite character, song lyric or be inventive! Before the screening of the beloved Julie Andrews film, a professional host will lead the audience through a vocal warm-up. Cheer for Maria and sing your heart out on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. Supported in part by Central Penn Parentand the American Literacy Corporation.


Tango Fire: Direct from Buenos Aires, Tango Fire presents “Flames of Desire,” bringing the passion and fire of tango to the stage with 12 dancers and a quartet of musicians, tracing the art form from its origins in the streets to the elegance of the ballroom. The show will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a free pre-show tango demonstration by PA DanceSport of Hummelstown, an hour earlier at 6:30 p.m. Supported in part by abc27.com and PA DanceSport.


The Hot Club of San Francisco – “Cinema Vivant”: Celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, the quintet borrows the all-string instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars, while breathing new life into the music with classic tunes and original compositions. The ensemble will perform to three silent films: “The Cameraman’s Revenge,” “The Mascot” and “There It Is.” The show is on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. and includes free pre-show lobby entertainment by the DeAngelo Trio of Carlisle at 6:30 p.m. Supported in part by Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz and WJAZ 91.7 FM.


Aquila Theatre: Returning to the LARL stage, Aquila Theatre performs “Twelfth Night,” one of William Shakespeare’s funniest and most charming comedies. Written in 1600 and set against a background of romance and mystery, this hilarious story of identical twins and mistaken identity explores the universal themes of love. Featuring a remarkable original musical score, innovative design and unique physical staging, Aquila’s cast will make it an experience not to be missed on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Join the members of the Aquila Theatre Company with a free pre-show chat at 6:30 p.m. Support for this tour engagement of Aquila Theatre Company is funded through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.


Neil Berg’s “101 Years of Broadway:” Direct from the Big Apple, “101 Years of Broadway” features a dazzling cast of five Broadway stars!  Veterans of the musical stage perform early classics such as “Some Enchanted Evening” from “My Fair Lady,” as well as hits from more recent shows like “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Phantom of the Opera” on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at 8 p.m. Supported in part by Lamar Outdoor Advertising.


“Rhythm of the Dance:” The National Dance Company of Ireland brings a lavish show celebrating the rich history of Ireland, featuring a large company of dancers, a live Irish band and the soaring sounds of the Young Irish Tenors. Start your St. Patrick’s Day celebration early with this show on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. Supported in  part by Oxford Hall and WITF.



Hubbard Street 2: Hubbard Street Dance Chicago brings the best in contemporary dance, with its smaller, yet powerful ensemble, Hubbard Street 2. This program will feature “Strides” and “By the skin of my teeth,” two new dances by 2012 National Choreographic Competition winners on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 8 p.m.



Rennie Harris RHAW: Founded by Rennie Harris, RHAW is a young dance company that travels throughout the U.S. and brings a new hip-hop work called “Love American Style,” a short story featuring the iconic music of Queen. Downplaying the abstract while pushing the dramatic aesthetic, RHAW is forging new paths for hip-hop dance. This show will be on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., including a post-show talkback with the members of the dance company. Supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour program.


The Fantasticks: The Nebraska Theatre Caravan presents the longest running musical in history in a fresh new “steam-punk” style. A timeless romantic comedy about a boy, a girl and their meddling fathers, this captivating show features the memorable classic tunes “Try To Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” This show is sure to ignite your imagination on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. Supported in part by FastSigns.
