- HACC Foundation Allocates $208,987 for HACC Programs and Projects
- HACC Graduates 16th Part-time Police Academy
- HACC and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Enter Partnership
HACC Foundation Allocates $208,987 for HACC Programs and Projects
New lab equipment and a shooting simulator are among projects at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, made possible by the HACC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises private contributions in support of HACC. The projects total $208,987.96.This funding is made possible through generous contributions from individual and organizational donors.
Linnie S. Carter, Ph.D., APR, vice president of college advancement at HACC and executive director of the HACC Foundation, said, “Serving the Central Pennsylvania community is what we do. Ensuring our students have access to the latest and greatest is what we do. Transforming HACC from good to great is a shared responsibility. Our generous donors understand all of this. For that, we are so grateful. This funding would not be possible without them.”
The funding from the HACC Foundation will be used for the following purposes:

| Leader Student Commons project at the York Campus | This project will provide an area for the students to eat and study at the York Campus. This project supports the College’s plan on sustainability is currently under budget and ahead of schedule. Through the partnership with Subway, the restaurant will provide some equipment. Most of the built-in equipment is included in the budget and will remain part of the building if another vendor moves in after Subway. The York Campus will receive a commission from Subway. PSECU is partnering to provide the breakthrough area for this project. PSECU will be hiring student workers to work at its E-center. | $75,000.00 |
| Surgical Technology Laboratory equipment improvement at the Harrisburg Campus | The request will replace and update pieces of basic equipment in the Surgical Technology program with refurbished or new equipment. The newer equipment will allow students to be exposed to and use devices they will use in their clinical rotation. The lab equipment and supplies will be reviewed during an accreditation site visit in the next year. | $23,018.00 |
| Mobile CPR training unit for the Public Safety Center at the Harrisburg Campus | This unit will be primarily dedicated to CPR training. Trainers are currently using their personal vehicles, ambulances or HACC vehicles to transport equipment for training. In addition, purchase of this vehicle will increase visibility by adding messages to it and increase revenue through expanded programs with new and existing clients. | $22,550.00 |
| Laser Shot System for Police Science/Criminal Justice programs at the Harrisburg Campus | The Laser Shot is a shooting simulator used as a teaching tool for use of force and officer discretion by law enforcement. This tool will help students experience a real-life scenario, record their actions and allow for discussion and analysis of decisions made during the simulation. This tool can be used in many different classes, such as ethics, and is portable. It will also be used in the criminal justice classrooms in the Whitaker building. | $21,950.00 |
| Technology testing for the Innovation Lab at the Lancaster Campus | Funds will support workshops and trainings in the Innovation Lab to familiarize faculty members with new technologies before they are installed and implemented in live classroom settings | $14,180.44 |
| Video content for communication courses collegewide | Funds for this project will be used to purchase video content for communication courses to provide students with a realistic look into the current career challenges and rewards of journalism professionals | $13,350.00 |

| Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) assistance for qualified students from all campuses | This will assist with PTK members with funding for travel and conference attendance. | $10,500.00 |
| Computer maintenance for the Harrisburg Campus | Funds for this project will provide server replacement and upgrades for the computer labs in Hall Tech 107 and 103. | $9,259.52 |

HACC Graduates 16th Part-time Police Academy
The Sen. Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex of the Sen. John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center (PSC) at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, celebrated the graduation of 10 cadets in its 16th part-time municipal police academy on Dec. 10, 2015.
Several of the graduating candidates also received outstanding achievement awards at the ceremony:
- Cadet John Singletary received the highest academic achievement award and the most inspirational cadet award.
- Cadet Cameron Burke received the highest proficiency in driving award, which is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
- Cadet Carlos Rodriguez received the highest achievement in physical fitness award.
- Cadet Hyung Kim received the highest proficiency in firearms award.
The cadets who completed HACC’s most recent police training, their hometowns, and affiliations are:
- Cameron Alexander Burke of Lebanon, pre-service
- David Weston Cheek of Orrtanna, pre-service
- Carlos Crispin-Rodriguez of Lancaster, Southern Regional Police Department
- Aaron Anthony Gobrecht of Hanover, pre-service
- Hyung Jung Kim of Harrisburg, pre-service
- John David Singletary of Jonestown, pre-service
- Candice Danielle Valencia of Harrisburg, pre-service
- Lori Jane Vital of Elizabethtown, pre-service
- Bryan Eugene Wheeler of Hanover, pre-service
- Kimberly Marie Wolfe of Camp Hill, pre-service
HACC’s Police Academy is the second largest in Pennsylvania and offers the basic training course mandated for all Pennsylvania municipal police officers. The part-time academy accommodates working students and can be completed in less than a year. HACC also offers a full-time academy, which lasts 20 weeks.
HACC also provides mandatory police in-service courses, law enforcement elective training and police testing.

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology signed an agreement on Nov. 19, 2015, to provide an alternative pathway for students to achieve their academic goals.
In the event enrollment capacity is reached at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, the partnership allows individuals to start their studies at HACC’s Lancaster Campus and later receive priority admission to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology upon demonstration of academic achievement at HACC.
Students can reapply to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology after completing 12 HACC credits, or can opt to stay at HACC’s Lancaster Campus and take advantage of the 50 programs that can be completed at the campus.
This partnership will provide local students the opportunity to complete a trades or technology degree in Lancaster County while saving time.
The agreement specifies that Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology will provide HACC with a list of student referrals and outreach to their applicants in support of the agreement.
