HACC Reduces Cost of Dual Enrollment Credits
High school students can earn college credits from HACC for $100 per credit

“What is college like?” is often asked by high school students, especially as they enter their junior and senior years. HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, offers several opportunities for these students to experience college life – and now at an even more affordable cost.

One option is HACC’s dual enrollment program that allows high school juniors and seniors to earn high school and college credit at the same time. Students can take classes at any HACC campus, off-site location or online through HACC’s Virtual Learning. The credits earned may satisfy high school graduation requirements, may be applied to a HACC degree program following graduation and may transfer to another college.

Tuition for dual enrollment classes is reduced to $100 per credit starting in fall 2015. The reduction provides an estimated savings of $150 per credit for students in non-sponsoring school districts and $90.50 for students in sponsoring school districts. Previously, dual enrollment students paid the same tuition rate as other HACC students.

Dual enrollment students experience the college setting and become familiar with the college class format, thus helping ease the transition from high school to college. They also can utilize HACC’s services, including tutoring, the library and counseling.

Interested students must apply to participate in the dual enrollment program. Please visit hacc.edu/CollegePathways for details. The dual enrollment program is one of many programs offered by HACC’s College Pathways that provides pathways to post-secondary education.

Top Five Reasons to Take Summer Classes at HACC

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, offers two summer sessions at its five campuses and online through Virtual Learning, starting May 26 and July 6, 2015.

Trevor Brown, a former guest student, took classes at HACC to “Keep up with my busy schedule and attain my Pennsylvania teaching certificate. I enjoyed the convenience of summer classes. It alleviates the stress of taking too many courses during the fall and spring semesters.”

By taking a summer class or two at HACC, a guest student can:
  1. Save money and transfer credits to his or her four-year college or university
  2. Get ahead and finish his or her degree early
  3. Take general education classes to avoid having to take them at the four-year college or university
  4. Complete a class in fewer weeks
  5. Choose from more than 300 online classes with the option to fit classes in with work and summer travel

Lisa Newcomer also took summer classes at HACC to achieve her goal of graduating early – and she succeeded. She encourages others, including those attending four-year colleges or universities, to get ahead and take a summer class at HACC.

Registration is open for summer classes. Visit hacc.edu/summer or call 800-ABC-HACC to enroll.

HACC’s Lancaster Campus Finds Need for Radiology Informatics Program
Students can earn an Associate in Science degree to advance in medical imaging

HACC is expanding its programs at the College’s Lancaster Campus. Starting in fall 2015, students can earn an associate degree in radiology informatics

Medical imaging technology has shifted, causing rapid changes in recent years and proving the need for experts in this field. HACC’s Lancaster Campus recognized the need to provide a program to meet the growing demand for knowledgeable professionals in Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) administration, sales and applications.

The two-year program will prepare students to become specialists in PACS – a system that involves managing digital images to improve patient care. Students will be required to take a variety of courses, such as human biology, communication, radiology and computer basics.

Additionally, students will receive clinical, networking and project management opportunities and necessary skills to work with doctors, radiologic technologists, nurses and information technology (IT) professionals.

Fall registration at HACC is open, and students are encouraged to apply for the new program by visiting hacc.edu/RegisterNow. To learn more about the program, individuals may contact the Lancaster Campus admissions recruiter at hacc.edu/Recruitment.

HACC’s Lancaster Campus Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

HACC’s Lancaster Campus celebrated the re-opening of its newly renovated Welcome Center on April 28, 2015, with a special welcome from HACC President John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Ed.D.; Brittany Wagner, president of the campus Student Government Association; and Patrice Beittel, HACC professor of counseling.

Beittel noted that since the Welcome Center re-opened in April, many students have expressed how convenient the new space is for accessing admissions, financial aid and advising. The new space provides a more convenient way for students to receive the services needed for enrollment and to get their questions answered in one location.

During the event, future students met with HACC’s faculty from programs such as science, technology, business, health careers, humanities, law enforcement and social science.

Attendees also learned how students can begin their journey at HACC and toured the campus.

Thanks to the HACC Foundation, all future students who attended the event were invited to enter a drawing to win a $500 tuition giveaway – money that can be used for their HACC tuition and fees during the summer or fall 2015 terms. Erin Hollis of Lancaster was the winner of the $500 tuition giveaway.
