Meet Peter: Online Learner from Egypt

“HACC has given me opportunities to learn about things I would never had access to before. The courses encourage independent and critical thinking, and I have been able to learn and grow as a person.”

While living in Cairo, Egypt, Peter Selib, is completing his associate degree in humanities, languages and the arts through Virtual Learning.

“Since I'm still in Egypt, being able to take my classes online and pursue a degree is amazing. The fact that I can do an entire degree online or use the credits that I'm taking now in order to move on to another university is an incredible opportunity. I hope to come to HACC and take classes in person in the fall, but for now, just having the opportunity to have a start and begin to lay a foundation means a lot to me,” Peter said.

“Starting at a community college is a great way to figure out what it is that you want to do. Taking classes online is especially wonderful for people who are too busy or unable to do them in person. Look to see what your options are, take the time to explore your interests and then go for it,” he added.

Peter hopes to complete a bachelors’ degree after completing his associate degree.

When he is not studying or working for journalists, he enjoys reading. “Reading is one of my passions but I grew up in a family where I am the first to be literate. The discovery of books and all that they contain is a gift that never ends. Reading not only is entertaining, but it opens your mind to new ideas, thoughts, and knowledge. I can't imagine not being able to read, and I would love to help others to learn too.”
